Readers Are Leaders
Literacy
Our literacy classes use a Balanced Literacy approach. This means that students will experience a balance of writing, independent reading, word study, guided reading, interactive read aloud, and shared reading on a daily basis. (For more information on Balanced Literacy, click here http://www.k12reader.com/category/balanced-literacy/.)
First grade works hard to meet the needs of all students. Using a variety of assessments and current research supported data, we group our students in skills-based learning teams. Infromation from DIBELS and TRC not only provides performance data, but also helps create student learning communities. This way, each student receives the exact level of support needed, designed for the specific skill set where he/she is working. Students work with teachers and reading instructors to support and challenge them throughout the year.
